I came across this article from Twitter and thought I'd share one section that caught my attention.
This got me thinking of hallwaycon at the few security cons I have made it to. While, there is great content at the cons themselves, most of which can be found on the web with a few Google searches. The real benefit is the people you may find yourself around and random conversations you may strike up over a drink. Maybe a start-up, maybe a potential customer, or even your next employer. These conversations may not be useful immediately but may come up handy months down the line.
99% of Networking Is a Waste of Time
99 percent of any networking event is a waste of time. “99% of Davos is information or experience you can get elsewhere, on your own timeframe and in a more comfortable manner. When I had my white badge access [an official pass to the conference center] — which I don’t bother with anymore — my friends would laugh because I never went to a session. [But] that’s not where the highest value is. What you can’t get outside of Davos is the ability to have so many face-to-face interactions which either initiate or further key relationships.”
